What is the process of commissioning a bespoke garment?
The bespoke garment process begins the same way for each garment, regardless of client type. We start with a consultation during which we choose the design of the garment in question, and move forward with the creation of a test garment. This test garment is then assessed for proper fit and design details before completing the final garment. Your pattern and test garment are kept on file for future use.
How long will the bespoke garment process take?
We like to have no less than between 4-6 weeks from consultation to completed garment, depending on the complexity of the garment. Bridal and formalwear require at least 12 weeks, or 3 months lead time.
Can I supply my own fabric?
Yes, but please be aware that certain garments work best with certain fabrics, and these must be compatible. We’ll work with you to determine what type of garment is best suited for your fabric. In the case that you supply your fabric, you will only pay for labor and supply costs.
Where do you purchase fabric for bespoke garments?
We rely on several high-end fabric stores to source our fabric including Mood Fabrics, Fabrics-Store for linen, Fabric.com, and others. We do not source fabric from box stores such as JoAnn unless the client specifically requests we do so.
Can you copy a garment I already own and make a new one?
Yes! Copying an existing garment is a fairly straightforward process and requires the same consultation and test garment as a garment from scratch.
Do you offer refunds for bespoke garments?
Due to the complexity and specificity of creating a bespoke garment for an individual client, we do not offer refunds for garments created. If you are unhappy with the final garment, we will work with you to fix the issues.
I am completely new to sewing — which class is best for me?
Sewing 101 is specifically designed for the amateur seamstress. The class begins with an overview of your machine, working with patterns, as well as beginner techniques to get you started.
Do I need to own my own sewing machine to take a sewing class?
Yes! We highly recommend that beginners invest in a computerized machine. We recommend the Brother CS-6000i which can be purchased on Amazon for around $150. This is a great computerized, “idiot-proof” machine for beginners.
Where do you teach your sewing classes?
Classes are taught at Modern Studio in the Downtown North Knoxville Happy Holler neighborhood. The address is 109 W. Anderson Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37917. Parking is available on the street or behind the building.
I paid for a sewing class but am unable to attend. What is your refund policy?
We are happy to refund your class fee up to 10 days prior to the class. After that, we are happy to let you attend another class in lieu of the one for which you registered.
Do you offer individual sewing lessons?
Yes! Our individual sewing lesson rate is $30 per hour and we’re happy to meet you in your home, or at our Studio.
